The American Elections aims to publish accurate and reliable information. When we identify a factual error in our published content, we aim to correct it promptly and transparently.
This Corrections Policy explains how readers can report possible errors, how we review correction requests, and how corrections and routine updates may be handled.
Reporting an Error
Readers who believe an article contains a factual error, outdated information, incorrect data, or important missing context are encouraged to contact us. Please include the article title or URL, identify the information you believe is incorrect, and provide any relevant supporting source or explanation when possible.
Correction requests can be sent to contact@theamericanelections.com. We review submitted concerns and, where necessary, check the relevant information against appropriate sources before deciding whether a correction or update is required.
How We Handle Corrections
When a material factual error is confirmed, we aim to correct the affected content promptly. The correction should address the inaccurate information without unnecessarily altering other parts of the article.
For significant corrections that materially change a reader’s understanding of the original content, we aim to include a correction note explaining what was changed. Minor spelling, grammar, formatting, or typographical changes that do not affect the meaning of the content may be corrected without a separate correction notice.
Updates vs. Corrections
Not every change to published content is a correction. Articles may be updated as new information becomes available, additional context is added, links or data are refreshed, or an election-related development occurs after publication.
Election coverage can change rapidly as ballots are counted, projections are made, results are certified, court decisions are issued, or candidates enter or leave races. Updating an article to reflect a new development does not necessarily mean the earlier information was incorrect. When appropriate, we aim to make significant updates clear to readers.
Election Results and Data Corrections
Election results and related data may change as election authorities count additional ballots, resolve reporting issues, conduct recounts, or certify final results. We aim to identify preliminary, unofficial, projected, and officially certified results appropriately and update our coverage as the status of the results changes.
If we publish election results, polling figures, maps, statistics, or other data incorrectly, we aim to correct the error after verification against the relevant source. Where the error materially affected the interpretation of the content, we aim to include an appropriate correction note.
Correction Requests and Editorial Decisions
We consider correction requests based on the accuracy of the published information and the available evidence. A disagreement with an article’s framing, analysis, or conclusions does not by itself establish that a factual correction is required.
When a factual claim is disputed, we aim to review the relevant evidence and sources before making a decision. Where credible evidence remains conflicting or inconclusive, we may update the content to provide additional context or make the uncertainty clearer rather than presenting one disputed interpretation as established fact.
